Behind The Scenes: Insights and Experiences from the SUPR Food Kitchen x Goode Health Weight Loss Study

Written by: Alyssa Paglia, RD

The primary objective of the SUPR Food Challenge was to study the health effects (primarily weight loss) of daily Goode Health consumption combined with a balanced diet. However, the experience transcended beyond just scientific data; it revealed personal transformations and a shared dedication to healthier living. I couldn’t be prouder of the thirteen people I had the honor of supporting during this 4-week study!

Structure and Support

The study was thoughtfully designed to ensure each participant felt supported and empowered. By providing chef-prepared lunches and dinners, SUPR Food Kitchen eliminated the barriers of meal prep and cooking, making it easier for participants to stay focused on their goals. Participants also agreed to replace their daily breakfast with two scoops of Goode Health. Nearly all of the participants found that the addition of Goode Health provided a source of sustained energy throughout the morning.

Each person had the opportunity to select their own lunches and dinners during our weekly check-in calls, while I supplied coaching and education to make sure things stayed on track. This interactive approach provided an additional layer of support and accountability and gave our participants the freedom to make their own choices.

Our weekly 1:1 meetings weren’t just about recording data and tracking food diaries. Emotional support played an important role in the success of the project. Conversations ranged from discussing challenges and obstacles to celebrating small victories, like fitting into an old pair of jeans or resisting the pastry tray in the office breakroom.

Personal Stories: Triumphs and Transformations

One participant’s journey really stood out to me. Let’s call him Rodger. Rodger had long struggled with portion control and was constantly battling “food noise” in his head – the little voice that tells you to keep eating, even when you aren’t truly hungry. By the end of the four-week study, Rodger had lost an impressive 17 pounds and confided that he was feeling better than ever – both physically and mentally!

Another participant, who had struggled with food noise and sugar cravings for most of his life, found that daily use of Goode Health completely eliminated his symptoms. He loved the Moroccan Chocolate flavor because it smells and tastes like cake but without causing blood sugar spikes or the sluggishness associated with eating a real piece of cake. (Don’t get me wrong, it’s completely acceptable to enjoy a slice of cake every now and then! But for those who struggle with food noise, the constant intrusive thoughts about sweets can be incredibly distressing.)

Another exciting outcome that came from the study was a reduction in hemoglobin A1c levels. With the combination of Goode Health shakes, balanced meals, and nutrition coaching, two of our participants decreased their hemoglobin A1c levels enough to pull them out of the pre-diabetes range!

One participant, a busy Mom in her thirties, had noticed some concerning health changes over the past year. She gained a bit of weight and recently found out that her hemoglobin A1c level was 6.0%, which falls within the pre-diabetes range. Her stressful schedule led to inconsistent meal times and frequent snacking, and she wanted to be more intentional about meals rather than eating whatever was quick and available. The structured meals and Goode Health shakes worked wonders. She lost 3 pounds and her hemoglobin A1c level dropped to 5.3%, which is considered normal and healthy. This transformation helped her secure a healthier future to spend with her children.

There were also significant improvements in cholesterol levels for many of our participants. Given the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of polyphenols found in Goode Health, it was no surprise to see reductions in both total and LDL cholesterol levels.

Final Thoughts

As a lead investigator, the most fulfilling part of this study was not merely the numbers on the scale or lab results, but witnessing real-life transformations. These human experiences add a deeper layer of purpose to our mission and underscore the benefits of combining Goode Health with a balanced diet. It’s one thing to know that polyphenols can improve weight and lab markers; it’s another to see Rodger’s proud smile, knowing his health has taken a positive turn. And that, for me, is the true reward.
